Once you've discovered the little white things on your tonsils, it might be easier to think that if you leave them alone, they will just go away on their own! You might try gargling with salt water a few times and if you're lucky, they will disappear and you will not have to look further into how to remove tonsil stones (which is what they're called).

It's not uncommon for people to get tonsil stones during or after being sick, especially with a cold because the mucus is constantly traveling from the nose to the throat at this time. Unfortunately, this process could continue for several months, as you try to get rid of all the stuff caught on your lungs. Mucus traveling will pick up bacteria and then can get trapped on the tonsils and start tonsil stones growth. If you continue to gargle throughout this time, it may get rid of them at that point.

But if you just wake up one morning with a sore throat and discover you have tonsil stones, the problem may be caused by something more than just a sickness or something you ate It's actually not impossible to think that they were caused by something you ate! At some point, something you ate may have got caught in the tonsil crevices. In the beginning though, the particles are minuscule and can't be seen by the naked eye.

As the particles begin to collect other things that are traveling down the mouth, bacteria begin to grow. Tonsil stones causing sore throats are the first clue, but if they continue to form, you will also get the added distraction of halitosis (bad breath!) You will want to remove tonsil stones even though they are not really harmful to your health - they're just painful and very annoying!

Like I said earlier, the bacteria will sometimes make tonsil stones grow no matter what you do. It's time now to check out what you're eating and drinking daily that may be helping the mucus and bacteria thrive. Dairy products have been known to make mucus, so trying to eliminate these from your diet can be a good first start.

So now you know, almost, how to remove tonsil stones. At least give these things a try (gargle, stop drinking milk, and start making sure you are getting active cultures in your diet). If all of these fail to help, it's time to re-look at your diet to see what could be causing the bacteria to continue to form.
